Police have two persons in custody following a hit and run along the Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), that has left 16-year old Sheldon Cleon Major dead, and 14-year-old Christopher Pollard hospitalised.
Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Andries Junor confirmed to Guyana Times that indeed a suspect was arrested, and a vehicle impounded, as the probe into the accident continues.
On Sunday, at about 19:00h, the two teens were found by a passerby lying motionless on the northern edge of the road. Pollard was in a semi-conscious state at the time.
Both of the young men had visible injuries about their heads and bodies and were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Major was pronounced dead on arrival.
Government pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh on Friday confirmed that the injuries Major sustained are due to the impact of a motor vehicle.
The teen’s aunt, Jaisa James, on Monday, told Guyana Times that she left the teens at home just a few hours before the accident. At that time, Major was helping his mother with her cleaning.
She said that she subsequently received a phone call informing her that the teenagers were involved in a serious accident.
Upon arriving on the scene, James said she found the two boys lying motionless on the road.
She added that relatives were told by persons on the scene that a silver car hit the young men, but no one could have identified the driver.
The family is calling for justice for the two boys.
