The Flying Stars Cycle Club will continue one of Guyana’s long-standing cycling traditions when it stages the 24th Annual Victor Macedo Memorial Cycle Road Race on Sunday, September 20.
The event will begin with a roll-off at 07:00h from Macedo’s residence on Peter Rose Street, Queenstown. The cyclists will travel through Lance Gibbs Street and Irving Street before passing the Kitty Roundabout and moving onto Clive Lloyd Drive, where the competitive section of the race will officially begin.
The riders will then head east along the East Coast Public Road, with the field divided into two groups competing over different distances.
Group One riders will continue along the Mahaicony New Road to Belladrum Village, where they will make a U-turn and begin the journey back towards Georgetown.
The cyclists in Group Two will turn at Perseverance, commonly known as “The Big Tree”, before heading back to the city.
On the return journey, the riders will use the Mahaicony Old Road and Drill Public Road before reconnecting with the East Coast Public Road. Both groups will finish at Liliendaal, opposite the Liliendaal Hospital.
Jamaul John was the winner of the previous edition in 2025. John finished ahead of Robin Persaud, Curtis Dey, Paul DeNobrega and Alexander Leung.
The event honours the late Victor Macedo, who was regarded as a stalwart of Guyanese cycling.
