2nd Petra/Limacol Knock-out football tournament launched
― aim is to make it parallel to Elite League ― Mendonca

The second annual Petra Organised Limacol Round Robin Knock out Football Tournament was officially launched on Tuesday evening at Spice Garden Restaurant, Campbellville.
The resounding message echoed at the launching by Co Director of the Petra Organisation Troy Mendonca is the that the main aim of the league will be to allow it to run parallel to the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Elite League and be an avenue where teams can be promoted to the league.
Mendonca also expressed that he is expecting full support from everyone in this tournament as “our business is to have football being played consistently.”
He added, “Our business as administrations is challenging and we have to rise above those challenges and have the game played since the impact of the game exceeds that of on the field.
GFF President, Wayne Forde expressed gratitude on the work of the Petra Organisation has done over the years and also admired that the growth of the tournament as it embodies the vision of the football Federation.
Commenting on having the tournament run as a parallel to the Elite League he said, “those are the relationships we can explore in the future” and he also agreed that the ultimate goal must be to have football being played.
New Guyana Pharmaceutical Finance Manager Dwayne Lovell stated that “We at New GPC are proud to be a part of the tournament and hoped that the game can be played in a way where the teams respect the rules of the game and perform their best.
The tournament will kick on January 15 and will have groups of four in a round robin followed by the knock outs which will conclude on February 26.
The top teams will complete for a $500,000 first place prize while second to third will receive $250,000, $125,000 and $75,000 respectively.
In addition, the top three teams in the groups will be rewarded $100,000, $50,000 and $25,000.
The teams participating are: Winners Connection, Ann’s Grove FC, defending champions Milerock, New Amsterdam United, Grove Hi Tech, Mahaicia Determinators, Western Tigers, Campton FC, Police FC, Northern Rangers, Santos FC, Riddim Squad, Eagles United FC, Den Amstell FC, Pourderyen FC and Uitvulgt.
A public drawing will be held at a later date to place teams into the various groups.
