Home Sports 3 champions set for last lap in Guyana
In an interest to promote thoroughbred horse racing in Suriname, three tested and proven champion horses owned by Nazrudeen Mohamed Jr will run their last race at the December 3 Champion of Champions set for the Rising Sun Tuft Club and organized by the Jumbo-Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee (JTRC).
Got to Go, Appealing Harvest and Jack in my Style after successful outings in Guyana will move further east to Suriname and will compete on the smaller tracks there to improve the standard and competition in the country similar to what obtains in Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica and Barbados
As it relates to “Got To Go,” Mohamed said “she will definitely be going after the Race of Champions.” The Jamaican Filly who set some strives in Guyana for the three years that she has been here, ran against all of the champion horses and she is still up and running. Over the years, she even put some great champions off the track including “Scores Even.”
Mohamed stated that, “She’s a small horse with a big heart. I am looking forward to a final win from her before sending her off to Suriname.” Mohamed who has never given away any of his legends said he is doing so for the love of the sport and he wants to help Suriname grow in the sport of Thoroughbred racing like what he is currently doing in Guyana. In Surineme, “Got to Go” will be running in the G-Class and Lower events.
Then there is “Appealing Harvest” who is known for pace and power. Many refer to this Jamaican filly as a “Land Plane” with her outstanding performances throughout Guyana. She wasn’t a horse for distance but definitely a horse of lots of early speed. Mohamed strongly believes that she will be the best of thre three in Suriname since the tracks are smaller and the competition is also very poor.
And finally there is “Jack in My Style.” He is known as the “Wicked Yankee Grey.” He performed well throughout the years while finishing in second place the most without any wins. Some say he is just wicked and don’t want to win, some say the trainer can’t get him fit enough and some say the jockeys can’t ride him. To that, Mohamed said, “I am hoping for a miracle win on December 3. I also hope that the Suriname trainers figure something out with him that our stable didn’t figure out.”
Mohamed, who along with the other committee members are busy getting ready for Champion of Champions said, “I know it is three great horses coming out from my stable but I need to concentrate on the main event and promote horse racing to grow like other countries as Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados. It is my dream to stop the cowboy race and to have thoroughbred racing once and for all.”
As it relates to growing the sport locally, Mohamed said “I don’t get much support from the other tracks and everyone does as they please but I know that I will get it done as the largest Promoter in Guyana. I know next year will be a great year of racing as many horses will be coming to Guyana to compete.”
Champion of Champions will see horses who won races throughout the year competing against each other for fantastic prizes and bragging rights on December 3 at Rising Sun.
