3 get bail for offering $700,000 bribe to Policeman

Three persons who allegedly offered a $700,000 bribe to a Policeman to forgo investigations in a matter involving obtaining money by false pretence were on Wednesday each released on cash bail when they appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Courts.
Those charged with corrupt transaction with an agent are 34-year-old Vishal Munilall and 25-year-old Kulwantie Munilall, both of Houston, East Bank Demerara (EBD); and 26-year-old Deodharry Odit of Gordon Street, Kitty, Georgetown.
Vikram Munilall, 37, also of Houston, EBD, Vishal Munilall and Odit have been charged separately with the offence of obtaining money by false pretence committed on Robin Bostwick of Eccles, EBD during February 2017.
The Munilalls are being represented by Attorneys-at-Law Damien DaSilva and Siand Dhurjon, while Odit is being represented by Attorney-at-Law Patrice Henry.
Vishal Munilall and Odit have each been released on bail totalling $140,000 on the two charges, while Kulwantie Munilall and Vikram Munilall have been placed on bail in sums of $40,000 and $100,000 respectively.
Reports are that Vikram Munilall was apprehended by the Police on two sentence warrants, and escorted to the Golden Grove Police Station, EBD. While there, he requested a telephone call to his lawyer, which was facilitated by the Police. The man was then visited by an Attorney-at-Law, and shortly afterward by Kulwantie Munilall, who gave him a package.

The money that was marked and lodged at the Police station

Vikram Munilall then requested to speak to the investigating officer, and his request was granted. In the presence of another Policeman, he gave the investigating officer $700,000 to forego investigation/prosecution against him.
The investigating officer immediately told the 37-year-old Vickram Munilall of the offence committed, and cautioned him. The money was seized, marked, and lodged at the Police station.
Vishal Munilall and Kulwantie Munilall were contacted and told of the offence committed. They were also cautioned, arrested, and placed in Police custody.
