Three men have been remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of a man who was allegedly beaten to death after being accused of theft at Honey Camp Landing in the Middle Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
Charged are Raymond Corroll, known as “Kunga Joe”, a 64-year-old businessman of Victory Valley, Wismar, Linden; Rafeek Shan Austin, known as “Shan”, a 34-year-old gold miner of the same area; and Tyrone Phillips, known as “Wormey”, a 63-year-old gold miner of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.
The charge relates to the murder of Robert Noble, called “Curry”, on June 9 at Honey Camp Landing, Middle Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The accused appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where the charge was read to them. They were remanded to prison, and the case will continue on July 31.
According to Police investigations, Noble, who reportedly performed odd jobs in the Honey Camp Landing area, was confronted by several men who accused him of stealing.
Investigators allege that during the confrontation, a belt was placed around Noble’s neck and he was dragged along the ground. The suspects allegedly dealt several blows to his body using a spade, cutlasses and pieces of wood. Police further reported that acid was allegedly poured on the victim during the assault.
After the attack, the injured man was reportedly left lying near an abandoned shop. Police were later summoned to the area and discovered Noble’s motionless body lying face down in the sand.
An examination of the body revealed what appeared to be abrasions and burn marks.
Based on information received during the investigation, the three suspects were arrested and subsequently charged with murder.
