Reports are the child was in the company of her mother and other relatives during the Phagwah celebrations on Sunday in Alexander Village, Georgetown. It is believed that the child wandered off from her relatives. She was seen on Sunday afternoon by residents in the area, who contacted the Police after realising that the child was lost. The lass was taken to the Brickdam Police Station where she slept for the night.

Police sources have confirmed that no reports were made to the Police about a missing child leaving them to believe that the child might have been purposely left in the village.

It was not until the story was published on an online news website that the grandmother of the child visited the Police station and requested that the child be released into her custody, but the Police informed her that the CCPA had full control of the child.

CCPA Director Ann Greene confirmed that the child was in the care of the Agency and full probe would be launched. She noted that the Police contacted the Agency on Monday and all arrangements were put in place for the child to be taken into CCPA’s custody.

She said the Agency would be meeting with the relatives of the child today, and promised to launch a thorough investigation.
