A three-year-old girl was raped by a 24-year-old man in Corentyne, Berbice on Friday.
Guyana Times was told that the child’s mother, who is a farmer, left the child in the care of the suspect’s mother, who also resides in the same village, since she had to go to her farm in the backlands.
Reports are it was a norm for the toddler to be left with the villager whenever her mother had to tend to her farm.
However, on Friday, the child was left unattended by the suspect’s mother and he used the opportunity to carry out the act. This newspaper was told that based on investigations, the suspect placed the child on a chair to stand and removed all of her clothing and committed the act.
In the afternoon hours, when the mother took the infant home, she showed her mother her private parts, indicating that the suspect (name given) did something to her.
The mother contacted the Police and the three-year-old was medically examined, which confirmed that she was sexually assaulted. Police are now on the hunt for the suspect.
Just two weeks prior to this incident, a New Amsterdam, Berbice man appeared in court after he allegedly raped a five-year-old, who was also a family member. He was placed on bail.
