34 West Indians on IPL 2022 auction list

A total of 34 players from the West Indies will be hoping to secure a contract in the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega-auction that is set for February 12 and 13.
Veteran Dwayne Bravo’s and Evin Lewis’s base price is 200 Rs Lakh (approximately US$265,400) the highest among West Indian players while Jason Holder, Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer are on the auction list at a base price of 150 Rs Lakh (approximately US$200,000).
Guyana’s Sherfane Rutherford is listed at a base price of 100 Rs Lakh (US$132,700) while Romario Shepherd is listed at a base price of 75 Rs Lakh (US$100,000). Other notable West Indian players in the IPL auction are Odean Smith, Dominic Drakes, Sheldon Cottrell, Rovman Powell, Andre Fletcher, Carlos Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Shai Hope, and Fabian Allen.
According to reports, Holder is expected to break the bank, and go for a high price while last season’s super-striker, Hetmyer is also expected to sign a big contract. In the 2020 auction, Hetmyer went in at a base price of 50 lakh (US$66,000), and he eventually went to Delhi Capitals for 7.75 Crore.
His fellow Guyanese, Rutherford, went in at a base price of 20 lakh in the last auction and was sold for 2 crore to Delhi Capitals, but in the 2021 edition, he was a replacement player for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Paul, in the 2019 auction, was sold for 50 lakh to Delhi Capitals.
The ever-green Bravo, who last played for Chennai Super Kings and has now retired from international cricket will also want to extend his riches in the IPL.
With two new additional teams in the IPL, more players will fancy their chances. Promising stars Smith and Shepherd are also likely to get their maiden IPL contracts. Chris Gayle was not retained and he is not listed in the IPL auction list. The big guns in Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell were the West Indians retained at high prices.
