…apprehended after more than a year on the run

A third man has been charged with murder in connection with the May 2025 double killing at Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) after being on the run for more than a year.
Egan Ricardo Bristol, 39, a construction worker of Smithfield, New Amsterdam, was apprehended last Friday and subsequently charged in connection with the murder of Leon Fordyce, called “Nasty Man” and Shawn LaFleur.
Bristol appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, where the indictable murder charge was read to him.
He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison until October 10. The matter was transferred to the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Courts.
The charge comes more than a year after Police disclosed during court proceedings that they were pursuing another suspect in connection with Fordyce’s killing.
Fordyce and LaFleur were killed following a violent confrontation at High Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, on the night of May 4, 2025. A woman, Angelisha Newyear, was also injured during the incident.
Police had initially reported that about 22:30h, an argument developed involving LaFleur and other persons and Newyear over alleged threats made against her son, Gregory DeYoung.
The confrontation escalated, during which Newyear was stabbed in the abdomen.
Fordyce was also injured and was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
LaFleur sustained serious injuries during the confrontation and was admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital. He died the following day while being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment.
In the aftermath of the double killing, Police arrested and charged DeYoung with the murder of LaFleur.
DeYoung, then 26, appeared before Magistrate Matthias at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Courts on May 9, 2025. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison.
Days later, Eubeern Bristol, called “Eusie”, a labourer of Smithfield, New Amsterdam, was charged with the murder of Fordyce.
Bristol appeared before Magistrate Matthias at the Albion Magistrate’s Court on May 13, 2025 and was also remanded to prison.
During that appearance, Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Mark Edwards informed the court that investigators were still pursuing another suspect in connection with Fordyce’s killing.
At the time, the Prosecutor indicated that further investigations would be conducted once that suspect was apprehended and the case file would subsequently be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further legal advice.
