The Police have arrested four persons in connection with the beating to death of a Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice (WCB) man after he shot at protestors on Wednesday.
Prettipaul Hargobin, 34, of Block BI Bath Settlement was beaten to death on the Bath Settlement Public Road by a group of protestors. It is reported that the firearm, used by the now dead man, has been recovered and is in police custody.
Inquiries disclosed that the man was in his motor vehicle on the Public Road at Bath Settlement when it was observed that he exited the vehicle with a shotgun and discharged one round into the air before discharging three rounds towards a crowd of protestors that were about 60 meters away.
As a result of his actions, he was attacked by the crowd and beaten. The police who were some distance away having observed the commotion rushed to the scene where the discovered Harripaul lying on the ground with several injuries about his body.
He was subsequently picked up and taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
