Four persons were on Saturday evening injured following two separate vehicular accidents along the East Coast Demerara (ECD) highway.
The first accident occurred at around 21:15h on the Railway Embankment in the vicinity of the Caricom Secretariat, Liliendaal, and involved motorcycle CJ 8261, ridden by Quancy Dennis, 43, of Grove, East Bank Demerara.
Based on reports received, the motorcyclist was proceeding along the Railway Embankment when he reportedly rode over a median, causing him to lose control. As a result, he reportedly fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries about his body.
The motorcyclist was picked up by an ambulance and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was admitted a patient.
Meanwhile, at Triumph Public Road, ECD, motor lorry GNN 3336, and a motor car belonging to Lawrence Jacob, 58, of Cummings Lodge, ECD, were involved in a smash-up.
Jacobs, when contacted, told Guyana Times that he was proceeding along the Triumph Public Road when his vehicle encountered mechanical issues. As such, he pulled over to the corner of the road to have it fixed. The man said he made sure he put on his hazard light before attempting to fix his car.
“I had on my hazard, they were traffic behind me who had on diverted… within a split second, while I was in front of the vehicle fixing it, I got a sudden impact. All I know I hit my head and passed out, when I catch myself, I was on the bridge and people came.”
Eyewitnesses said the motor lorry hit the motor car from behind, causing the car to slam into the bridge. The driver received injuries to his head and leg, while the passenger of the car also received injuries to his head.
When Guyana Times arrived on the scene, the driver of the motor lorry was seen on the road lying under the damaged car, groaning in pain. He was picked by public-spirited citizens and taken to the GPHC. The police are investigating both accidents.
