Four men from the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), appeared before Magistrate Tariq Mohamed at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where they were fined or had matters adjourned following multiple traffic and alcohol-related charges.
In the first case, Monte Williams, a 39-year-old miner of Charity, Essequibo Coast, was charged with permitting breach of insurance and permitting an unlicensed driver. The offences stemmed from an incident on April 26 at the Mainstay Lake Access Road, Essequibo Coast, where he allegedly allowed his 14-year-old son to operate his motor vehicle.

Williams was charged under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic (Third Party Risk) Act, Chapter 51:02, and Section 23(1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined $25,000 for permitting breach of insurance, in default two weeks’ imprisonment, and $25,000 for permitting an unlicensed driver, also in default two weeks’ imprisonment.
In a separate matter, Ronson Peters, a 20-year-old construction worker of Sparta, Essequibo Coast, was charged with unlicensed driving, an unregistered motor vehicle, and driving with a breath alcohol level exceeding the prescribed limit. The offences occurred on April 19 on Sparta Public Road.

He pleaded guilty to unlicensed driving and was fined $40,000 or, in default, two weeks’ imprisonment. He also pleaded guilty to driving an unregistered motor vehicle and was fined $25,000, in default of two weeks’ imprisonment. Peters pleaded not guilty to the charge of driving with breath alcohol above the prescribed limit and was granted $100,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to September 8 for trial.
Meanwhile, Trevor Smith, a 70-year-old pensioner of Henrietta, Essequibo Coast, was charged with refusing to provide a breath specimen for a breath alcohol test. The offence occurred on April 21 at Cotton Field Public Road. He pleaded guilty and was fined $30,000, in default of two months’ imprisonment.
In the fourth case, Yumesh Prabhoonath, a 37-year-old labourer of Onderneeming Sandpit, Essequibo Coast, was charged with refusing to provide a breath specimen for a breath alcohol test. The offence occurred on April 5, 2026, at Reliance Public Road.
He pleaded guilty and was fined $30,000, in default of two weeks’ imprisonment.
