Home News 4 remanded for robbery-under-arms
Four men were on Friday remanded to prison by Magistrate Leron Daly on a charge of robbery under arms. Orvin Grant, 27, a taxi driver of Melanie, Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD); Ronlee Rampersaud, 31, a watchman of Sideline Dam, La Penitence, Georgetown; along with Russell Bowman, 38, of 8th Street Cummings Lodge, ECD, and Jermaine Hassan, 35, of Newton Kitty, Georgetown, both unemployed, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. It is alleged that on February 6 at Subryanville, Georgetown, being in the company of others and armed with a gun, Bowman, Hassan, Rampersaud, and Grant robbed Selina Edwards of $200,000. The prosecution objected to bail, citing the fact that the virtual complainant was shot during the robbery and is still nursing her gunshot wound. Additionally, the Police prosecutor also informed the court that Rampersaud was previously charged for a matter of similar nature. The case will continue on March 5. (G15)
