40 emerging leaders cash in on Diversity Training in Linden

The Social Cohesion Ministry on Saturday kick-started the 35th Diversity Education and Inclusion Regional Training Workshop, which was hosted at the Linden Foundation Secondary School, Amelia’s Ward, Linden, targeting youths as agents of social change.
The two-day workshop saw the participation of 40 youths between the ages of 15 and 30, originating from communities such as Mackenzie, Cinderella City, Speight Land, Amelia’s Ward and Central Amelia’s Ward.
The forum was aimed at increasing the capacity of the participants, so as to encourage the young Guyanese to promote social cohesion, in their strides as the future leaders of the country.

Addressing the youths during the opening ceremony of the workshop was the Programme Coordinator Sharon Patterson, who encouraged the 40 young Guyanese to capitalise on the learning experience, which will allow them to develop the skills that will foster closer relations with their peers and others colleagues. This, Patterson indicated, will allow youths to better manage conflicts and contribute to the building of the nation.
Also speaking at the forum was Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) Chairman Renis Morian, who pointed out that the Ministry was seeking to channel the exuberance of youth into the right direction.

Following the completion of the sessions over the weekend, the participants provided feedback on the workshop, with some indicating that the sessions provided assistance in decision-making and significantly enhanced their lives.
The Diversity Education and Inclusion Regional Training Workshop is one in a series of initiatives embarked upon by the Social Cohesion Ministry aimed at engaging stakeholders in discussions and practical exercises to identify the factors that are stymieing social inclusion and unity. These sessions are geared at refining the views of Guyanese, thereby equipping them with the necessary skills to erase inequalities and social injustice.
