From November 4 through 6, 43 exciting matches will be played in Guyana’s leading softball tournament, Guyana Softball Cup, at venues throughout the City and at the Ogle Community Centre ground. This was revealed by the executives of the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) at the launch of Guyana Softball Cup six at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) Lance Gibbs Street Queenstown, Georgetown.

A total of 24 teams will vie for honours in the Open and Master categories in the tournament which is in its six phase. Those teams, 10 of which are foreign teams, from New York, Florida and Canada while the others will come from various parts of Guyana.
Of the 43 games, 36 are preliminaries, four will be semifinals, plus the male open and masters finals along with a female 10/10 exhibition game.
Prizes for the champion teams are; in the open category Winning trophy and $800,000, runner-up trophy and $200,000 while the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the final will receive a trophy. The overall Player of the series will receive a cricket bat gold pendant (14 carat) with diamond encrusted compliments of Steve Jewellery.
Meanwhile, prizes for the champion team in the male masters category are; Winning trophy and $600,000. Runner up is trophy and $150,000. MVP of the final will take home a trophy while player of the series will earn a cricket bat pendant (14 carat) with diamond encrusted compliments of Steve Jewellery.
There will also be plaques for special performances including centuries and five wicket hauls compliments of the Trophy Stall. Proceedings on the final day will get underway at 11:00 hours at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground when the two finals and an exhibition match is set to play.
Speaking at the Launch of the tournament on Tuesday at the DCC Pavilion, Secretary of the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) Lalta Gainda urged the base of softball cricket (the players, supporters), “to support who support us.” A facet he said those involve need to be fulfill to ensure that those sponsors benefit from their contribution.
Meanwhile, Admin Manager of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Garvey C. Harry congratulated the association for being able to host yet another tournament. He said that he like the initiative by the GFSCA to have teams from outside of Georgetown participate in the tournament because it remains to some that Georgetown is Guyana because of the advantages in regards to the resources it possesses.
Spectators are also set to benefit on the finals. They are asked to keep their half tickets and listen for their number to be called during the games. There will be many giveaways to fans from Rubis Guyana, Mikes Pharmacy and other sponsors of the event.
Also at the finals on November 6, four ticket holders stand a chance to win trip for themselves and a partner to Baganara Resort (one night), Kaieteur/ Orinduik Falls, Arrowpoint Resort (one night) and Aruwai Resort White H20 (one night). This is compliments of Survival Travel Agency.
Tickets for the finals cost $1,000 each and are available at Trophy Stall at Bourda and City Mall, Mike’s Pharmacy, Ramchand Auto Spares, 4R, Motor Trend in Enmore, Rohan Auto Spares in Mahaica, Ariel Enterprise, Nauth’s Motor Spares and Nand Persaud & Co. Ltd in Berbice.

Grounds earmarked for the tournament are; Malteenoes Sports Club ground, GCC ground Bourda, Police Ground Eve Leary, DCC ground, MYO, GYO, GNIC ground, GDF ground and Ogle ground.
Cotton Field Wild Oats won the inaugural tournament in 2011 while last year Regal Masters won the Masters title after defeating Floodlights Masters in a one-sided final and Regal All-Stars took home the open title.
