48-year-old man taken into custody after raping 8-year-old niece

A 48-year-old Berbician has reportedly admitted to the police that he raped his eight-year-old niece at their home shortly after the girl’s mother left her child in his care.
Reports are that around 19:30h on Sunday night, the child’s mother requested that the perpetrator take care of her daughter so that she could run an errand.
Shortly after the woman left the house, the unemployed uncle is said to have taken his niece into his bedroom, which is located in the lower flat of their two-storied house.
He then allegedly removed the young girl’s clothing and committed the heinous act.
Guyana Times understands that moments after committing the act and re-dressing the eight-year-old, the girl’s mother returned home, and the child related to her what had occurred.
Less than 30 minutes after hearing the ordeal, the mother reported the matter to the police. According to a source, the suspect was immediately arrested and told of the allegation made against him.
He reportedly admitted to the police ranks to raping the young girl.
This publication was further told that the eight-year-old was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where a medical examination was performed on the child.
The result was that her hymen[BM1] was not intact. Meanwhile, the child’s uncle is presently in Police custody as investigations continue into the matter.
Just Saturday night, a 27-year-old miner was arrested for the rape of an 11-year-old female, and while the miner has no ties to the child through blood relation or marriage, he is well-known to the young girl’s family.
The incident is alleged to have taken place at the child’s home in the absence of her relatives.
Reports are that the officers made the arrest around 20:30h at Garraway Stream, Potaro River, when they discovered that the miner was also in possession of an unlicensed pistol with six live rounds.
He is presently in Police custody and is said to be assisting with the investigations.
