5 injured following EBD lorry-car collision

Five persons are now hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital following a collision between a motor lorry and a motor car on Thursday at Coverden on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD).
Reports are the accident occurred at about 17:00h on Old Year’s Day. Police said the motor lorry was driven by a 33-year-old man of Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and the motor car was driven by a 26-year-old male of Block X Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD.
It was revealed by investigators that the motor lorry was proceeding north along the western side of the road allegedly at a fast rate of speed, when the driver of the motor car was in the process of swerving from a pothole.

As a result, the car and motor lorry collided, causing both vehicles to receive extensive damages.
The drivers of the vehicles along with two other occupants of the motor lorry and one from the motor car were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where they were all admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in serious conditions.
Investigations are ongoing.
