5000 cannabis plants, shotgun found during ganja farm raid

Police have destroyed approximately 5,000 suspected cannabis plants and seized a 12-gauge shotgun and six matching cartridges during an eradication exercise in Bartica Village, Upper Berbice River, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice). The exercise was conducted on August 6 between 06:00h and 12:30h by police ranks.
During the operation, the ranks discovered a field measuring approximately two acres, containing about 5,000 suspected cannabis plants. The plants were between three and six inches in height. A makeshift camp measuring approximately 10 feet by 10 feet was also found at the location. According to police, a search of the camp resulted in the discovery of a 12-gauge shotgun and six matching 12-gauge cartridges. The firearm and ammunition were subsequently taken to the Central Police Station, where they were lodged. The cannabis plants were uprooted and destroyed, while the makeshift camp was also destroyed by fire.

No arrests were made in connection with the discovery. Investigations are continuing, Police said.
