Police are investigating the discovery of a firearm and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation at Kwakwani Park, Airstrip, Upper Berbice River, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) early Saturday morning.
The operation was conducted at about 12:30h on August 8 after police ranks received information concerning the presence of a firearm in the area. Acting on the information, the ranks proceeded to an unfinished and unoccupied concrete structure, where they conducted a search. During the search, police found a black plastic bag containing a silver Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol. The firearm was fitted with a magazine containing one live 9mm round of ammunition. According to Police, the firearm, magazine and ammunition were taken to the Kwakwani Police Station, where they were lodged pending examination.
No arrest has been made and investigations are ongoing.
