519 Guyana serves up luxury dining with a cricket twist at AC Marriott

Fittingly themed “The Opening Innings”, a new hotspot at Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD), will add to Guyana’s growing fine-dining landscape.
519 Guyana brings an interesting cricket-related twist to the arena, symbolising the number of Test match wickets taken by patron Courtney Walsh.
The restaurant and bar, located within the confines of the AC Marriott Hotel at Ogle, offers a cosy dining atmosphere with a specially curated menu and even a dedicated sushi station.
Referring to the 519 mark, Tourism, Industry and Commerce Minister Susan Rodrigues discussed the symbolism of the brand and how it translates to the local hospitality sector.
“In that regard, the symbolism behind the 519 brand is particularly powerful because 519 is not simply a number; it is a reminder of greatness forged through endurance, discipline, and commitment. It is the number associated with one of cricket’s greatest fast bowlers, Courtney Walsh, whose remarkable Test career left an indelible mark on the game and whose qualities provide profound lessons not only for sport but also for business. You could not ask for a better patron for this brand than Courtney Walsh,” Rodrigues told the gathering.

The Minister continued, “In many ways, that is the very essence of successful hospitality. Guests remember consistency; they remember professionalism, how they were treated, and whether promises were kept. In hospitality, as in cricket, success belongs to those who can maintain standards over the long haul.”
Of course, the Jamaican pacer was present for Wednesday evening’s special occasion, revealing that his team jumped at the opportunity to join the Guyanese market.
Walsh stated, “Looking at the landscape of Guyana and what has been happening, it’s just a pleasure and a privilege to be here. When we found out that the AC Marriott was going to be next door and we could get a piece of the action, it was nothing to do with second-guessing, so this is going to be my home away from home.”

“Everything is on the inside: the food, the liquor, the drinks, and good company. All I can ask for is for people to enjoy what we’re doing; thanks for the support. We’re here to build a brand, get the people of Guyana involved, and be a part of it. We’re not just here to set up something and go,” the cricketer-turned-coach assured.
Alluding to Walsh’s remarks, 519 Director Michael Rooplal highlighted the potential of the Guyanese market.
“It is the culmination of a vision, significant hard work, careful planning, and an unwavering belief in the present, future, and overall potential of Guyana,” Rooplal remarked. “When we first started this project, we did not simply see a building, a business, or an investment opportunity; we saw possibility in all that Guyana has to offer to the world.”
“More importantly, we saw an opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way to the continued growth and transformation taking place throughout this beautiful country. We saw an opportunity to create something modern, valuable, and lasting,” 519’s Director further stated.
519 Guyana joins a sister brand established in Trinidad and Tobago back in 2017.
