Six persons are now in custody assisting with the investigation into the robbery of former murder accused Marcus Bisram at his Number 71 Village, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) home on Sunday evening.
The bandits reportedly carried away in excess of $15 million in cash, jewellery and other valuables. Reports are Bisram was sitting outside of his home at about 19:00h when the bandits pounced on him.
According to the former murder accused, four men entered his yard, three of whom were armed with firearms and one with a cutlass.
“They came in and they relieved us of our cell phones first and then they took us into the house and relieved everyone of their jewellery that they had on,” Bisram said.

Meanwhile, some relatives who had attempted to escape were accosted by one of the bandits.
After relieving everyone inside of their jewellery, Bisram said the bandits then turned their attention to him.
“They took me to my room and they asked me for all the jewellery and money. One of them picked up a child and had a gun at the child’s head, so, I took him to my room and gave him all of the money and jewellery that I had. It happened so fast, not even two minutes; in and out.”
This publication was told that nine other relatives were robbed during the invasion.
According to the police, all ten victims are from the Upper Corentyne. Police said that the bandits took two gold bands valued $2.8 million, one gold chain valued $1.4 million, six debit cards, $5 million and US$2000 from Bisram.
In addition, a 50-year-old relative of Number 71 Village was robbed of four gold bands and a taxi driver of the same village was relieved of his $20,000 cellular phone. The taxi driver was beaten by one of the bandits.
Police in a statement on Monday said that a 54-year-old businesswoman of Number 60 Village, who was also at the home at the time of the invasion, was robbed of one black Samsung Galaxy S8 cellular phone valued at $100,000 while a 22-year-old housewife of Number 71 Village was robbed of her Samsung Galaxy S5 cellular phone valued $54,000.
Cellular phones were also taken from a 24-year-old self-employed man of Number 60 Village, a hire car driver of Number 70 Village and a labourer of Number 60 Village.
One of them was also robbed of $35,000 while an accountant of Number 71 Village was robbed of one gold iPhone S5 and one gold chain and his finger rings.
In addition, a 56-year-old businessman of Number 60 Village was dealt several lashes with cutlasses and robbed of one brown wallet containing his National Identification Card and Driver’s Licence along with one black Samsung Galaxy J2 phone.
The police said the men escaped on foot.
According to Bisram, following the incident, the police were immediately contacted.
“I must say that they were very quick responding and very professional when they got here. I got a call this morning (Monday) from them and they are still investigating; there was some immediate investigation done last night as well,” he related during an interview on Monday.
Bisram was accused of ordering the death of Fayaz Narinedatt, a carpenter of Number 70 Village, Corentyne, on November 30, 2016.
His death was initially reported as a suspected hit-and-run accident. It was later reported that Bisram made sexual advances to Narinedatt, who objected to the advances.
Bisram was charged here in absentia, while five others: Orlando Dickie, Radesh Motie, Diodath Datt, Harri Paul Parsram, and Niran Yacoob have been committed to stand trial for the murder.
Meanwhile, after being extradited from the US to stand trial here, Bisram was subsequently acquitted for the murder. However, the DPP is currently appealing a High Court decision which has freed Bisram. That appeal comes up for hearing in the Court of Appeal on December 18. (G4)
