Home Sports 60 officials to be trained ahead of SA Junior Championships
The month of June will be a historic one for Guyana as they are set to host the South American Junior Championships, at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, from June 3 to 4.
In this regard the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) in partnership with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) will be training 60 officials.
The training is being administered by International Technical Official (ITO), Giovanni Cardona of Columbia. Cardona commented that the initial group is very good since it is persons with experience.
The training began last Wednesday and 30 participants took part of their exams and another batch is expected to begin classes on May 4 lasts for five days when all 60 participants will take their written exams.
With athletes from over 10 countries expected to take part in the Championships, this will be the first time that an international event of such magnitude would be held in Guyana.
The South American Junior Championships is a biennial event at which junior athletes (Under-20) from all across South America participate in athletic events. The last Championships which was held in Ecuador, involved 245 athletes from 11 nations.
