…79 new cases recorded; oxygen plant arrives in Guyana

Guyana has recorded 1271 deaths from COVID, after a 74-year-old man succumbed on Monday.
His death was announced by the Health Ministry on Tuesday. He was unvaccinated and hailed from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica)
Meanwhile, 79 new coronavirus infections have been reported, to which 69,547 confirmed cases are now in the country. From the dashboard, 17 persons are in institutional isolation, 724 in home isolation and three in institutional quarantine. There are two patients in the Intensive Care Unit.
Additionally, 65,533 persons have recovered while 674,485 tests have been processed to date.
An analysis shows new cases dispersed among eight administrative regions, with three in Region One (Barima-Waini), two in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), three in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 24 in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), seven in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), 19 in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), 17 in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) and four Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
No new cases were detected in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) and Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni).

Oxygen plant
On Tuesday, Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony informed that the $31 million oxygen plant that was donated for the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Liliendaal has arrived.
The oxygen plant was procured by Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) and Sewa International Guyana and donated to Guyana coming to the end of last year. However, Guyana was not able to receive the plant earlier due to shipping and logistical problems brought on by the pandemic.
Anthony stated that with the arrival of the plant, they are now awaiting the engineers from India to have it installed, which will then enable the Ocean View facility to produce its own oxygen.

Vaccination
In terms of vaccination 444,857 or 86.7 per cent of the adults have received the first dose of a COVID vaccine while 344,517 or 67.2 per cent have received two doses.
For the 12 to 17 age cohort 35,350 or 48.5 per cent have received a first dose vaccine while 25,856 or 35.5 have received two doses. For five to 11 age cohort, 5955 or 5.8 per cent have received a first dose vaccine while 1285 or 1.3 per cent have received two doses. So far, 7778 booster doses have been administered.
In the Region of the Americas, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases are pegged at over 168 million with a death toll of 2.7 million. Globally, the confirmed positives stand at over 565 million with more than 6.3 million reported deaths.
