Top round-robin teams receive prizes

Petra/Limacol Round-robin Knock-out Football

The Round-robin segment of the 2nd annual Petra Organised Limacol Football tournament has concluded and the top teams in the four groups have received their incentive prizes from organisers at a simple presentation on Wednesday evening at the Spice Garden Restaurant in Campbellville, Georgetown.
Western Tigers, Den Amstel and Mahaica Determinators received $100,000 for topping their respective groups while the other teams pocketed $50,000, $30,000 and $20,000 apiece in order of placement.

Speaking at the ceremony, Co- Director of the Petra Organisation Troy Mendonca stated that from the feedback the competition has served its purpose as most games in round-robin were very close and teams improved as the tournament went on.
His position was based on the fact that the final placements in the groups were decided by goal difference which exemplifies the fierce competition on the field.
Mendonca added that the matches were played at venues in Georgetown, East Coast of Demerara, West Demerara and Linden which was aimed at giving each team a chance to play at “home” and to build the popularity of the sport.
Concerning the playing of the semi-finals and final the Co-Director explained that the Mashramaini season and the start of other tournaments has caused the rescheduling of those fixtures.
He also thanked sponsors for their support as it helped the tournament to grow from strength to strength and wished to continue in the same vein.
To date, Banks DIH Limited under the GT Beer Brand, Trophy Stall and Star Party Rentals are the other companies that have thrown their support behind the championship.
The quarter-finals will be played this Sunday and pits Milerock against Western Tigers at 19:30h followed by Winners Connection and Eagles at the McKenzie Sports Club at 21:30h. Over at the Victoria Community Centre Ground also on Sunday, Police will meet Den Amstel at 19:00h followed by Mahaica and Santos from 21:00h.
Winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and a trophy while the second, third and fourth placed teams will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
