Abrams Zuil’s Roberts, Fredericks confident ahead of decisive battle

Eight fours and nine sixes came off the bat of Ravid Fredericks as he led his team, Abram Zuil Secondary, past a target of 127 in just seven overs. Fredericks’ masterclass saw him accumulating an unbeaten 90 in 30 balls, supported by Captain Otis Roberts’ unbeaten 15 to get to 130-2.

Earlier, Queen’s College were sent in to bat and posted 126-6 in their 20 overs, on the back of a run-a-ball 45 from Emilio Singh.
In the aftermath of the decisive match, Captain Roberts discussed their decision at the toss and how his team performed.
“Going into this game we were pretty confident,” Roberts told this publication. “We had a lot of ups and downs in the field, but we backed ourselves and come out victorious.”
“We wanted to bat first, but looking at the pitch, the pitch looked a little damp. After we spin the toss, we realise it was a bad call, but we realise we had to live with it, and we had to back ourselves,” the Abram Zuil Captain divulged.
As their third and final match in the group stage looms, a blockbuster clash with Essequibo Islands for the top spot in the group, Roberts touched on the importance of their win on Tuesday.
He explained, “We knew we needed a big win today because our next match is against Essequibo Islands, and the winner between that match will top the group.”
Meanwhile, Fredericks talked about his mindset prior to his unbeaten score.
“It was a bit easy; the bowlers weren’t finding their lengths,” the batting all-rounder shared.
Fredericks went on to add, “It was a positive mindset. Going out there, Sir talked to me; we had to come out positive.”
One thing both players have in common is their confidence heading into today’s battle with the Essequibo Islands.
Roberts shared, “We’re pretty confident, but we just don’t want to be overconfident because cricket is a game that plays on the day.”
On the other hand, Fredericks told this publication, “I’m very confident, and hopefully we come out victorious.”
That game is scheduled for 10:00h at the Pomona Ground on the Essequibo Coast.
