Accountant critical after stabbing, robbery on seawall

Police in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ are investigating a robbery under arms that occurred early Monday morning on the Kitty Seawall, Georgetown leaving a man hospitalised and in critical condition. The incident took place at about 02:50h on Monday, and involved a 25-year-old accountant of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD) and a 30-year-old accountant of Eccles New Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD). According to preliminary investigations, the two men were walking along the southern side of the Kitty Seawall Road, heading west, when they were confronted by two men who had been sitting on the seawall. One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a knife. Police said the suspects approached the victims and demanded money. During the confrontation, one of the victims pushed the armed suspect and attempted to flee. He was pursued, fell to the ground and was stabbed several times. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot in an eastern direction along the seawall road.
Police responded and transported the injured man to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was examined by a doctor and admitted. He sustained a stab wound to the right side of his chest and remains in critical condition. Investigators, with assistance from surveillance footage obtained through the Government of Guyana’s Safe City Initiative, have since arrested one suspect, a 24-year-old mason of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, who is currently in custody assisting with the investigation. Efforts are ongoing to locate the second suspect.
