Accused chain snatcher on bail

A teenager, who is accused of snatching a chain, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Monday before Magistrate Sherdell Isaacs-Marcus to answer to a larceny from a person charge.
Tyrece Mericer, 19, of Queen Street Kitty, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on March 18, at Brickdam, Georgetown, while in the company of another, he stole one gold chain valued $120,000 from Aleisha Singh.
The Police prosecutor told the court that Mericer had an accomplice when they robbed Singh of her gold chain.
He added that the accomplice made good his escape with the gold chain, however, the Virtual Complaint held onto Mericer and as such, he was unable to escape.
Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus released the weeder on $75,000 bail, noting that leniency was shown due to his age and the fact that he is a first-time offender.
As conditions for bail, Mericer has been ordered to seek counselling from a probation officer and to report to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Eve Leary every Friday until the matter concludes. (G15)
