Amsterdam leads BEI to Beharry Schools U19 T20 Zone 8 Title

The Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) was crowned Zone Eight champions of the 2026 Beharry Under-19 Secondary Schools T20 tournament after completing a convincing 50-run victory over Lower Corentyne Secondary at Albion on Tuesday.
Luke Amsterdam continued his impressive form with an unbeaten 60 from 55 balls, guiding BEI to 148 for four from their allotted 20 overs. Ryan McPherson supported with 25, while Lemeul Dejonge contributed 23.

Lower Corentyne were then dismissed for 98 as Gilbert Griffith and Brandon Grimmond combined to dismantle the batting order. Griffith claimed four wickets for 24 runs, while Grimmond collected two for 20.
Nicholas Madramootoo offered resistance with 37, but his effort was not enough to prevent BEI from securing the Zone Eight crown.
Meanwhile, Golden Grove Secondary advanced in the Zone Six East Coast competition after defeating Lancaster Secondary by 42 runs at the Queen’s College Ground.
Golden Grove were bowled out for 76 despite a patient-40 from Alvin Ramotar. Gavin Adams claimed four for 11, and Simon Dass took three for 29 to give Lancaster a strong chance of victory.
However, Lancaster struggled badly in reply and was restricted to 34 for eight. Ramotar completed a strong all-round performance by taking three wickets for three runs, while Parmesh Roopnarine captured two for four and Nathan Seebalak finished with two for 14.
In Zone Five, Queen’s College defeated Christ Church Secondary by 21 runs at the same venue.
Queen’s College posted 103 for seven from 20 overs, led by Sachin James’ 36, which included two fours and three sixes. Nathan Gurrachan made 20, and Nathaniel Sukhnandan added 19.
Darrius Haynes claimed three for 13, and Hemraj Bhowan took two for 11 for Christ Church, who were later limited to 82 for five. Saurav Persaud scored 21 and Trevor Burnett made 16 during the unsuccessful chase.
