Anxiety, fear gripping Guyana

Dear Editor,

Please publish this letter of concern to many citizens of Guyana on the anxiety and fear gripping the country over the Government’s approach and actions on many matters since coming to Office, including:

* The massive increases in remuneration for the executive within weeks of coming into Office.

* The abandonment of major development projects, including the Amelia Falls Hydro Project and the Specialty Hospital.

* Political witch-hunting through numerous forensic audits, excluding the City Council of Georgetown and the University of Guyana.

* Extravagance in public expenditure; ie, D’Urban Park and 50th Anniversary celebration.

* The pressure on businesses to make contributions (donations).

* Widespread perception of corruption in the execution of public contracts and sole sourcing, and the Sussex Street bond deal (despite its strong objection and position while in opposition).

* The abuse of contract employment to friends and associates, and over staffing of public agencies.

* Political intimidation of the judiciary by Attorney General Basil Williams and Minister Raphael Trotman “of Cabinet taking note” fame by their public attacks of the Chancellor, Justice Carl Singh, and the Deputy Solicitor General, Ms Kissoon

* The legal advice given and taken by the Executive from the Attorney General (of Guyana or the PNC) is below expectation

* Apparently, age and racial discrimination on the constitutional – and other appointments of senior persons – by asking or manifestly pressuring them to vacate office

* The new, heavy, unjust and burdensome taxes, and their consequences on the general population.

The list goes on.

Please Excellency, President Granger, govern with fairness, non-discrimination, and equitable justice for all; bring peace, racial harmony, unity and reconciliation to the dear land of ours.

Regards,

Joshua John
