Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources, Simona Broomes and a team from the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) on Tuesday met with miners in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) to discuss issues affecting them.

Key among these was the challenges the miners face with regards to mining applications.
According to the Department of Public Information (DPI), during the interaction, the Minister and a team also accepted mining applications. However, Minister Broomes explained that such an exercise will soon be a thing of the past as currently; GGMC is working on computerising the application process.
“Miners usually have to travel to Georgetown for this process, however, we are trying to simplify it for them, decentralise using our office here,” Minister Broomes explained.
She further explained that this online mining application service should be functional by mid-2019.
The Natural Resources Ministers have been meeting key players in the mining sector to address some of their concerns. The Ministers have candidly addressed many of the issues highlighted, explaining the steps being taken in the respective Ministries to tackle them.
