Attempted murder accused granted $500,000 bail

A Lindener, who is embroiled in a chopping incident, was on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of $500,000 when he appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
Twenty-nine-year-old Jason Lespoir of 119 Wisroc Housing Scheme was attempting to murder Marvin Somersoll on Thursday September 12 at Canvas City, Wismar, Linden.
The accused, who was represented by Attorney Yondessa Welcome-Mercurius, was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
In her application for bail, the attorney stated that her client was imprisoned for three months for simple larceny while he was also fined for a threatening language charge.
She said following these incidents, her client did not have any further brushes with the law. The attorney further claimed that her client was not guilty of the charge, rather it was the Virtual Complainant who attacked him.
Prosecutor Vernetté Pindar told the court that the VC is still hospitalised and under Police guard since he was sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment for another matter. She noted that while his condition is listed as stable, the wounds he sustained require regular dressing.
While the Prosecutor did not object to bail being granted, she requested that the accused report to the Wismar Police Station’s Criminal Investigations Department every Friday at 09:00h until the completion of the matter.
The accused is scheduled to return to court on October 7, 2019, for report and file completion.
