When contacted on Friday, Etkins told Guyana Times, “I was about to turn, when they were two guys approached me…” He related that the pillion rider suddenly whipped out a black handgun from the waist of his pants, and pointed it in his direction.
Ekins said at first, he thought the gun the men were using was fake, but when he heard the “click” on the weapon, he knew it was real.
“I knew it was a robbery, but I still tried to defend myself. When I heard the click or the clack on the gun, then is when I realised that it was a real gun. I jumped off the motorcycle, trying to escape but the pillion rider, the one who had the gun, he still run behind me…he took away some $4000 from me as well…” Etkins told this publication.
He said that the gunman then picked up his motorcycle and escaped.
Ekins said he was unable to see the men’s faces since they were both wearing masks. “Everything happened so fast,” the pressman told this publication, noting that he sustained injuries to his knee and left shoulder after he fell on the roadway.
He also revealed that the stolen motorcycle bore registration number CK 5166 and is valued at $290,000.
