It was certainly a Captain’s match as Christopher Barnwell helped the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) add yet another trophy to their collection when they won the final of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) First Division Two-day Cricket Competition on Sunday against Guyana Defence Force (GDF) by virtue of securing first innings honours.
The competition which is sponsored by General Industrial Supplies Enterprise (GISE) Trophy Stall and Star Party Rentals, saw the National all-rounder stroking an eye-catching 70 and ending with match figures of 6-71 was one of the main contributors in the Queenstown based team bowling out GDF for 160 on day one and responding with a total 302, which in turn gave them a lead of 142.
In GDF’s second innings, they ended on 66-3 when play came to an end.
In the Soldiers second innings they slipped to 10-3 as the medium pace of Christopher Barnwell removed Leon Andrews (00), Quacey McPherson (00) and Hakeem Hinds (05) within the space of five overs.
An unbeaten 56-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Kevin Ramdeen 29 (5x4s) and Ishwar Singh 26 (4x4s), who played some stylish shots, entertained the small gathering; Barnwell took 3-35.
Earlier, DCC, resuming on 184-5 with Kemol Savory on 02 and Dennis Squires yet to get off the mark, saw Romario Shepherd removing the duo to reach his fifth wicket of the match and put DCC at 197-7.

Tevin Imlach who resumed his innings after retiring hurt with cramps on day one, took the score 238-8 with a handy 41-run partnership with Paul Wintz.
Imlach, attempted to use his feet to spinner Kevin Ramdeen and missed the ball to be stumped by wicket kepper Dexter Solomon for a well composed 73 (6x4s;1×6).
Imlach’s dismissal brought the pair of Dexter George and Wintz together who frustrated the Soldiers with stubborn 49-run partnership for the eight wicket.
The right-handed Wintz would be ruing the opportunity to register a fifty, after he was caught behind off the bowling of Nial Smith for 49 (7x4s), spending 200 minutes at the crease.
George and Totoram Bishun took the score pass the 300 mark when George was taken at slip for 15 off the bowling of Ramdeen, leaving Bishun not out on nine.
Shepherd was the pick of the GDF bowlers with 5-39 from 20 overs; Ramdeen was next best with 2-12.
