Rising Stars crowned champions of South Essequibo T20 competition

On a day blessed with glorious sunshine in the village of Pomona on the Essequibo Coast, Rising Stars were crowned as champions of the South Essequibo T20 Competition that concluded recently.

New Opportunity Core (NOC) Club won the toss and inserted Rising Stars to bat on a good wicket in the final.
The openers had some testing moments from the fast bowler Neland Codogon as the first wicket went down in the third over with the score on 10.
Two overs later, Codogon had Kurty Jones caught at backward short-leg trying to fend off a short lifting delivery.
Codogon, bowling at a lively pace, kept the shackles on Rising Stars, but some very sensible batting by Kaman Lackhan and the talented Sachin Persaud put together an 84-run partnership for the third wicket before Persaud had to retired hurt on 37 (4x4s).
Soon after, Lackhan went for a well-played 42 (4x4s). Rising Stars gathered 104 runs in the last 10 overs with Jadesh Dindyal 14 (1×4;1×6)and Anil Lackhan 16 not out (1×4;1×6) gave their team a total of 141 for 8 off their 20 over’s .
Bowling for NOC, Miguel Jones had 4 for 26 runs off 3 overs and Akeene Adams 3 for 19 runs off his 4 overs.
In reply, NOC looked very positive in their run chase for victory but lost the aggressive opener Mohabeer when he was bowled by Ravindra Narine with the score on 12 in the 3rd over.
They kept loosing wickets regularly until Heresho Paul who made 35 (3x4s; 1×6) and Neland Coodogon 15 (1×6), added 44 runs the 5th wicket.
The pendulum swung and the match seemed in favour of NOC when Paul took 22 runs off Ricardo Peters first over with the score on 71 for 4 in eight overs but Peters had the better of Paul when he had him caught on the long-off boundary.
The only other batmen who looked like they were trying to go after the target was Orin Heyliger, who made 26 not out (2X4s) as NOC finish with 112 for 9 off their 20 over’s.
Bowling for Rising Stars Ravindra Narine 3-19 off his 4 overs and Anil Lackhan 2-21.
Kayman Lackhan was named man of the match in the finials, with Rising Stars receive the winning trophy and cash while NOC receive the runner ups trophy and cash.
Early on in the day Hibernia Sport Club upset Jaguars in the third place play-off.
Jaguars won the toss and took first strike and were bowled out for 104 with Norman Fedricks 67 (5x4s; 2x6s) Bowling for Hibernia Mangal Samroo took 5-19 and Suraj Persaud 4-23.
In reply Hibernia got pass the target with three wickets and 3.4 overs to spear Suraj Persaud made 38 (5x4s) and Reaz Mohamed 29(3x4s), Wazim Kamal had 3-20 in his 4 overs , Persaud was later named man-of- the match.
The South Essequibo Cricket Committee awarded trophies to all the players who were adjudged man-of -the match in all the matches that were played in the Round Robin stage and semi-finals.
