Berbice, Demerara set up final showdown

Berbice and arch rivals Demerara will clash in the finals of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Dave West Indian Imports inter county U15; following commanding wins on Thursday.
At Everest, Berbice batting first made a 111 for 8 in 36 overs after the match was reduced due to rain during the defending champions’ innings. In-form batsman and captain, Zeynul Ramsammy top scored for Berbice with a composed 36 batting at number four while Jonathon Rampersaud contributed with 16 runs down the order.
After a spirited bowling display at the start of the game after winning the toss in brilliant sunshine, the Essequibo batting line-up faltered and were bowled out cheaply for 49 in 28.5 overs giving Berbice their third consecutive win of the round-robin phase of the tournament this time by 62 runs.

Mahendra Basdeo scored 14, as the destroyer once again is Rampersaud who bowled exceptionally well for the Berbice team following up his 5-fer in the previous game with 4- 13, copping the man of the match award again. Boodram Lakeraj and Latchman Dhanna were also in the wickets’ column with two scalps each.
Over at Lusignan, Demerara beat the GCB President’s XI by four wickets under the Duck-Worth Lewis Method.

The President’s XI won the toss and elected to bat first and were bowled out for 88 in 43 overs either side of a rain interruption. Tameshwar Mahadeo top scored with 17 and got support from Yohance Anjoy with 13 runs.
Player of the Match, Rommel Datterdeen (2-12) and Zachary Jodha (2-7) were the most outstanding bowlers for Demerara.
When Demerara began their quest for 89 from 50 overs for a place in the final they were held up by rain. After a lengthy delay, they were given a revised target of 80 from 40 overs and got there for the loss of six wickets in the 30th over.
Batting for Demerara, opening batsmen, Nicholas Rajpat (15) and captain Mavindra Dindyal (13) laid the foundation before Datterdeen came back with the bat to hit the top score of 17 to set up the championship match on Saturday.
Ajay Gainda and Mitra Dhanraj bagged 2 wickets each for the President’s XI who finished their three preliminary matches winless.
The finals now set for Saturday February 10 from 09:30h at Bourda, will see Demerara looking to wrestle the title from the boys from the ancient county who are unbeaten heading into the final.
