Showstoppers trounce Zeelugt Warriors

It was picture perfect for two-time defending champions Showstoppers as they hammered five unanswered goals into a hapless Zeelugt Warriors when the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Football Championships West Demerara/ East Bank Demerara Zone continued on Wednesday night at the Pouderoyen tarmac.
The dynamic Trayon Bobb was at the helm of the destruction netting goals two minutes apart, in the 7th and 9th while assistance came from Marvin Josiah (6th), Dexroy Adams (8th) and Marvin Frank (12th).

Showstoppers were unstoppable against Zeelugt Warriors at the Pouderoyen tarmac Wednesday evening

A Guinness goal (any goal in the final three minutes) saved Rising Stars from defeat at the hands of Admiral United. In the final minutes Daniel Abrams produced the match defining strike which erased Lexroy Manfield’s conversion in the 4th minute. Goal Getters and Harmony Warriors could not find a goal in their regulation time but the latter were good enough to win 2-0 on sudden death penalty kicks.
Parfait Hardball and Police ‘A’ also left the call for goals unanswered in their encounter but Hardball snuck one of their sudden death penalty kicks to walk away victorious.
Bilaal Abdul’s Guinness Goal in the 19th minute aided his side’s 2-1 victory over Brothers United after Leon Yaw scored in the 2nd minute while both Zeelugt FC and Hustlers won 1-0 on penalty kicks after their matches against Harmony Ballers and Mocha ‘B’ ended goalless stalemates.
ESPN gave the Dream Team a rude awakening winning 3-0 via goals from Trevon Lythcott (13th) and Pernell Schultz (20th). Facebook Ballers edged Veterans 1-0 on penalty kicks after their match ended 1-1; Veterans took the lead in the 13th via Kacey John but one minute later Jalen Williams equalised.
Patentia won 1-0 on penalty kicks after goalless regulation time with Nismes Ballers and Up Like Seven got two over Bagotville when Anthony Darlington scored in the 20th; Police ‘B’ won via walkover against Frontline Ballers.
Action continues on Friday at the same venue with round of 16 games as the battle heat ups for the winning purse of $400,000 and a spot in the national play-offs.
The runners-up will be given $200 000 and a trophy while third- and fourth-placed finishers will receive $150 000 and $100 000 respectively along with trophies.
