Berbice High and Port Mourant Secondary surge ahead

BCB/RHTYSC/GBTI Secondary U-19 Tournament…

Play in the Berbice Cricket Board- organised Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club/Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Region 6 Inter-Secondary School Cricket Tournament continued recently with several schools advancing to the next round.
The tournament is being played among seventeen secondary schools in the region and forms part of the BCB’s well-structured developmental programme for youth cricketers.
Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTYSC) is also using the Tournament to promote its highly successful Say No to Drugs, Suicide, Crime, Alcohol and Tobacco message to schools.
The RHTYSC /Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Inter-Secondary School Tournament started five years ago, but was limited to teams in the Lower and Central Corentyne area. This year, the Tournament was expanded to all secondary schools in Region 6.
Berbice High School have defeated Lower Corentyne Secondary by 6 wickets. Batting first, Lower Corentyne Secondary scored 85-6 in their allotted 20 overs. Tameshwar Mahadeo top- scored with 20, while Leon Cecil and Neil Tilkaram both made 12. Bowling for Berbice High, Rajendra Beharry took 3-13.
In response, Berbice High School scored 86-4 in 17.5 overs. Zeymul Ramsammy and Abdul Ramsammy scored 23 and 25 runs respectively, despite Cecil’s 2 for 16.
Meanwhile, at Port Mourant Ground, Corentyne Comprehensive High defeated Black Bush Secondary by 153 runs. Corentyne Comprehensive High scored an impressive 211 for 4 in 20 overs, with Gourav Ramesh scoring 71 and Tyrese Sealey with 57 leading the scoring.
Bowling for Black Bush Secondary, Latchman Chandradeo took 2 for 33.
Black Bush failed to chase the total, and ended on 58 all out in 12 overs, as Tyrese Sealey bagged 4-13 and Gourav Ramesh grabbed 4- 9.
At Albion Ground, Lower Corentyne Secondary defeated Winifred Gaskin Secondary by 112 runs. Lower Corentyne made 178-4 in 20 overs. Leon Cecil, 50, G. Harris, 23 and Neil Tilkaram, 23, were the main contributors.
In reply, Winifred Gaskin folded for 56 all out in 12.4 overs, as Vijay Gopilall’s 2-14 and Tilkaram’s 3-18 helped to defend the total.
At Port Mourant Ground, Port Mourant Secondary created a huge upset by defeating Corentyne Comprehensive High by 4 wickets. Corentyne were only able to post 100 all out in 18.2 overs, as the in-form Matthew Pottaya bagged 3 for 18 and Rampertab Ramnauth, 2 for 1.
Needing 101 for victory, Port Mourant ended on 101-6 in 17.3 overs. Top scoring were Rampertab Ramnauth with 50 not out, Jai Tika with 24, and Naresh Veersammy with 12 not out. Bowling for Corentyne were Mahendra Gopilall, who took 2 for 17, and Darren Brijadder, who 2 for 20.
