Berbice man nabbed while transporting ganja in minibus
A 54-year-old man of D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB), has found himself in hot water after he was found with 942 grams of suspected cannabis while in a minibus at the Number 50 Bus Park, D’Edward, Village, WCB.
The incident occurred on Friday at about 11:45h. Reports are based on information received, the ranks went to the minibus park and confronted the suspect who was in the bus at the time. A search was carried out on his possessions. At the time he had a black haversack and was seated in the front seat of the vehicle. Upon searching the bag, Police unearthed a black plastic bag which had a bulky black parcel wrapped with transparent plastic.
Upon opening the parcel, Police found what appeared to be leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The man was told of the offence and he later told Police that he was taking the cannabis to someone in Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
He was immediately arrested and taken to the Blairmont Police Station where he was placed into custody.
Just days ago, ranks in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) went to a home at No 68 Village, Corentyne, and conducted a search that unearthed a quantity of cannabis, ammunition, and a 12-gauge shotgun.
According to reports, the search was initiated after the Police had received a tip-off. During their search, officers found a black plastic bag containing the ganja, which amounted to 84 grams when weighed; a transparent plastic bag with 6 rounds of 9mm ammunition; eight 12-gauge cartridges, and one 12-gauge single-barrel shotgun.
Two men were in the house at the time of the search and they have both been taken into custody. (G9)
