BCB/New York Business Group 2 Innings U-19 tournament

Fine half centuries by Alex Algoo, Steve Deonarine, Joel Sietaram, Krystof Bahadur, Zameer Inshan, Javid Karim and a six wicket haul from Nigel Deodat highlighted the latest matches of the New York Business Group sponsored two innings under 19 cricket competition for teams in Berbice. The competition organized by the Berbica Cricket Board (BCB) with Albion Cricket Club influenced sponsorship, resumed recently.

At Blairmont, their ‘A’ team won the toss and batted first scoring 251 runs for 6 wickets declared. Berbice under 19 batsman Zameer Inshan top scored with 65. He got support from the prolific national under 17 batsman Javid Karim with 54, Guyana under 15 all-rounder Seon Glasgow 46 and Marvan Prashad 41. Shahid Baksh took 4 for 55 for the ‘B’ team who replied with 117 all out. Jaden Trotz topscored with 31 and Baksh 25. National under 15 left arm spinner Nigel Deodat spun web around the batsmen taking 6 for 20 and Glasgow 3 for 19. Forced to follow on, they feared worst in the second innings, collapsing to 76 all out. Keyon Gangoo took 4 for 15 and Deodat 4 for 17 to lead their team to an innings and 58 runs victory, thus topping the zone and qualify for the quarter finals.
Over at the Cumberland ground in East Canje, Tucber Park and Young Warriors Cricket Club played to a draw without a first innings result. Tucber Park won the toss and batted first and scored 223 for 9 off 47.1 overs. National under 17 batsman Steve Deonarine top scored with a classy 64 with 8 fours. He got support from national under 19 all-rounder Joel Sietaram 59 with 4×4 and 3×6, national under 15 player Leon Swamy 28 and Trevon Caesar 25. Bowling for Young Warriors, Jamal Frank took 4 for 28 and left arm spinner Trevon Stanislaus 4 for 69. In reply, the home team batted solidly to finish on 170 for 3 with Berbice under 19 opener Alex Algoo stroking 67 consisting of 9×4 and 1×6 and Kristoff Bahadur 60 with 5×4 and 3×6 when time ran out. The match will be replayed this Saturday at the same venue. The rules states that if no first innings is decided by the first day, then the match will continue into the second day until first innings points is won.
Achievers, winner of their zone is slated to host Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports club in a quarter final clash this weekend.
