Bingo Spartans, Saints dominate Hockey weekend

It was another eventful weekend at the Saint Stanislaus College Ground on Carifesta Avenue, as the Guyana Hockey Board’s (GHB) Bounty Paper Towel – Quicker Picker Upper Second Division and the Solo Drinks Under 20 developmental leagues continued under favourable weather conditions.

Saints extended their clean streak with another win

A lone goal from Simeon Moore led his team, the Old Fort Hockey Club (OFHC) Generals to a slim 1-0 win over Saints Hockey Club (SHC) Storm in their Men’s Second division encounter on Saturday.
Also in the men’s second division, SHC Samurai romped to a 2-1 victory over SHC Storm while, YMCA OFHC Ballerz schooled the OFHC Generals 6-0. Georgetown Cricket Cub (GCC) The Sequel were also in the winners row after defeating OFHC Aces 6-1.
The women’s second division was as equally exciting, with the Saints ladies continuing their dominance this time against the YMCA OFHC. This time around, Tekeisha DeLeon was the leading lady as she hammered home a hat trick of goals to put her team in a comfortable position. However, Clayza Bobb, Sueann Fraser and Charlia Webb etched their names onto the score sheet to give Saints a 6-0 victory.
The GCC Bingo Spartans brought back their fine from Trinidad and Tobago where the participated in the Paragon hockey tournament. In their first game back, since the tournament last week, the ladies slipped five unanswered goals into the GCC Her-ricanes nets for a victory. While Haley Carpenter and Kirsten Gomes had braces, Madison Fernandes netted one for their 5.
The GCC Bingo Spartans continued to excel on Sunday, despite being given a tougher fight from the experienced GBTI GCC. Macaela Harding, Vanessa Pires and Princessa Wilkie each scored one for the GBTI GCC outfit but it was not enough to measure up to the Bingo Spartan’s’ five. Abosaide Cadogan, Haley Carpenter, Paige Fernandes, Makeida Harding and Sarah Klautky were all amongst the goals for the Bingo Spartans.
Over in the men’s second division, a few hat tricks were witnessed on Sunday. Hilmar Chester’s 3 and one from Baraka Garnett ensured that the SHC Shoackwaves would defeat the SHC Savages by a 4-0 margin.
The result was the same when Bounty GCC took on the YMCA Old Fort HC Rusty. Meshach Sergeant hammered home a hat trick of goals while Kareem McKenzie assisted with on for the 4-0 win.
Meanwhile in the Solo Drinks Under 20 fixture of the day, Kareem McKenzie’s lone goal allowed the GCC Pitbulls to edge past SHC Storm, 1-0. The developmental hockey leagues will continue this weekend with another set of games.
