Body of unidentified man found in South Road canal
The body of an unidentified man was on Wednesday retrieved from the South Road canal at Croal and Wellington Streets, Georgetown.
The man’s body was discovered by a passer-by about 12:30h as it was floating in the canal.
A vendor who plies his trade nearby said he was at his stand working when a man who was passing called out to him and told him that there was a body in the canal.
The vendor said he went over to the canal, where he saw the body of a man floating face down.
The vendor said the Police were immediately summoned, and upon their arrival, the body was taken out of the water and examined.
He told Guyana Times that the body was not in a decomposed state and was fully clothed.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Police said that the corpse was then taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital and was in the mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
The investigation is ongoing. (G9)
