Forty-nine-year-old Doroteia Castilho Maia, a Brazilian national who allegedly stabbed her husband to death during an argument on Saturday at Rock Creek Backdam, Puruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), was arraigned for murder on Wednesday.

Maia, a gold miner from Manaus, Brazil, appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictment.
Police stated that on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Maia murdered Antonio Pereira Figueredo, 53, at Rock Creek Backdam, Puruni River. The woman was remanded to prison until August 31, 2026.
It was reported that on the day in question, the couple was involved in a heated argument at their mining camp, during which the man was stabbed once in the abdomen.
The Police were summoned, and upon arrival at the scene, the now-deceased man was lying on the ground next to one of the camps. Upon inspection of his body, the Police confirmed a stab wound to his abdomen.
In addition, a kitchen knife suspected to have been the weapon used to commit the crime was recovered. The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where she was charged.
