Briton John continues to top GCF rankings

– 4 Guyanese to feature in USA this weekend

Guyana’s top cyclist Briton John continues to reign supreme at the Guyana Cycling Federation’s (GCF’s) Points Classification system. In the latest points classification, the ‘We Stand United rider’, who recorded his major win in the Independence three-stage, has 93 points, enjoying a 30-point gap to Team Evolutions’ Christopher Griffith with 63 points.
Last year’s top rider and Team Foundation’s Jamual John is in third spot with 53 points, while Paul DeNobrega has 49 points in fourth. Raynauth Jeffrey, who has returned to the United States of America, has 41 points while veteran rider Alex Mendes has 30.
The senior National road-race champion Romello Crawford has 20 points, while Marcus Keiler has 17, and Curtis Dey has 13.
In the Masters category, Mendes has 35 points, while Stephen Fernandes has 25, Paul Choweenam has (24) and national masters champion in the road-race, Walter Grant-Stuart has 18 points.
Jaikarran Sukhai has 16 and Junior Niles has 13.
Guyana’s top female rider Suzanne Hamilton has 20 points, while Shenika Teixeira has 10 points. Aaron Newton who emerged as the junior champion for 2021 has 26 points, and Berbician Mario Washington has 22 points. Alexander Leung has 22 points, and David Hicks has 18 points.
Meanwhile, four of Guyana’s top cyclists are set to be in action this weekend at the 2021 Armed Forces Cycling Classic in Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
Michael Anthony, Jamual John and Raynauth Jeffrey will be racing as part of a six member CRCA/Foundation CCB Elite Team, while 2021 National Road Race Champion Romello Crawford will compete in a five member CRCA/Jamison Cannondale squad.
The weekend’s racing begins with the 6-corner Crystal Cup Criterium on Saturday, June 5, which will span 1hr 30mins. On Sunday, they will race in the 100-lap (62 miles) Clarendon Cup, which is known as one of the most difficult criterium races in the USA due to technical demands of the course and the high quality of the participants.
