Guyanese cyclist Briton John captured the 2026 Grand Prix Cycliste de l’Ouest title on Monday, May 25, after a tactical final stage in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, French Guiana.
Riding for Sinnamary Ticéane Cycling Club, John overturned the overall standings on the final day to secure the yellow jersey and the overall victory after three days of competition.

The concluding stage was affected by heavy rainfall in the region, forcing organisers to alter the route because of flooding along the RD9 roadway. Riders instead remained on the RN1 before returning to Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, shortening the original course while allowing the race to continue safely.
With the overall title still up for grabs, the peloton produced an aggressive and tactical race from the early stages as several teams attempted to pressure overnight leader Larry Lutin of Guadeloupe’s Espoir du Sud.
The stage victory went to Terry Tsang Yee Moi of ECG Crédit Mutuel after a successful late counter-attack, but it was John who emerged as the biggest winner of the day by moving into the overall lead.
John benefited from a strong collective effort by the Sinnamary Ticéane team as he reclaimed the yellow jersey to seal the overall crown.
In the final general classification, John finished ahead of Larry Lutin in second place, while Benjamin Bousquet of Vélo Club du Maroni Belova completed the podium in third.
Other category winners included Noé Carrère, who claimed both the U19 and Open Two and Three titles. Adam Cousi won the Access category blue jersey, while Caymmi Serrano Ursule of VCG Ibis Style secured the U23 classification.
The team title was won by Vélo Club Saint-Annais de Guadeloupe ahead of Vélo Club de Sinnamary Ticéane and Vélo Club du Maroni Belova S3T.
