Buxton United down Santos as Elite League Cup continues

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) KFC Elite League Cup on Friday saw Buxton United Football Club achieve a remarkable victory over Santos Football Club, while Fruta Conquerors and Milerock Football Clubs played to a draw at Eve Leary Sports Ground, Kingston, Georgetown.
Buxton United delivered an impressive performance on October 20, securing a 2-1 victory against Santos Football Club.
The team’s striker, Paul Kingston, opened the scoring in the sixth minute, followed by a goal from Tyreel Cummings in the 29th minute.

A look at the action thus far in the Elite League Cup

Although Santos managed to pull one back, with Stefan Reynolds finding the net in the 87th minute, their attempts to equalise fell short despite several opportunities owing to Buxton United’s formidable defence.
In the first game of the evening, Fruta Conquerors and Milerock Football Clubs battled fiercely until the final whistle in their quest for victory.
However, both teams’ efforts were thwarted by solid defensive strategies, resulting in a goalless draw at the end of the match.
The KFC Elite League Cup features 10 top clubs divided into two groups. Group A consists of Guyana Defence Force, Santos, Buxton United, Fruta Conquerors, and Milerock. Group B comprises Western Tigers, Guyana Police Force, Den Amstel, Victoria Kings, and Ann’s Grove.
Each team is vying for the prestigious title and the generous prize money of $1.5 million. The second-place team will receive $1 million, while the clubs securing third and fourth place will be recognised, with prizes of $500,000 and $250,000 respectively.
The KFC Elite League Cup will resume on Sunday, October 22, with a double header – Den Amstel take on Western Tigers at 18:00h (6pm), followed by a clash between Guyana Defence Force and Milerock Football Clubs at 20:00h (8pm) at the Eve Leary Sports Ground.
