Campbell helps Guyana secure win over Trinidad

After losing to Jamaica in Sunday’s opener, Guyana’s ladies rebounded with an empathic seven-wicket win over Trinidad and Tobago in round two of the 2018 Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Women’s T20 tourney. Round two played on Tuesday at Sabina Park saw Guyana racking up 70-3 in 14 overs in the first innings with skipper Shemaine Campbell hitting two sixes and three fours in her top score of 44 not out as opener Shenika Grimmond set the tone with an aggressive 17 as Trinidad’s best bowler, Anisa Mohammed returned figures of 11 runs for her two overs.

Earlier, the Guyanese squad ensured that their match against Jamaica was out of sight as their star-studded bowling unit helped to keep their opponents to 69 runs when they batted first.
On Sunday, the Guyanese ladies warmed up with an unfortunate loss at the hands of the hosts who beat them by eight wickets after mustering 75-2. Grimmond (24) was the top scorer, as no other Guyanese cricketer passed nine.
Windies Women’s International and Jamaica skipper Stafanie Taylor bagged 2-12 while Roshana October starred with 3-11. Round three will bowl off on Thursday with Guyana looking to continue their winning streak when they tackle Windward Islands under lights at Sabina Park from 19:00h.
