Canada-Guyana Chamber of Commerce to be launched

…in bid to strengthen bilateral trade, investments

The launch will be held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre

Following on the heels of the America-Guyana precedent, the Canada-Guyana Chamber of Commerce is set to be launched in an effort to strengthen trading and investment between the two countries.
According to a statement, the Chamber will be launched on December 4 at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre. It will also feature addresses from President Dr Irfaan Ali, outgoing Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana, Lilian Chatterjee and Chamber Chairman Anand Beharry.
“The main objective of the Chamber is to strengthen trade and investments between Canada and Guyana and provide support to Canadian and Guyanese business interests in the two countries,” the statement said, adding that the Chamber will have offices in both Toronto, Canada, and Georgetown, Guyana.
It was explained that the Chamber has 24 founding members, including Banks DIH Ltd, Caribbean Surgery Inc, CGX Energy Inc. Additionally, the founders include Demerara Distillers Limited, Edward Beharry and Company Limited, Empire Plus Home and Commercial Inspection Services Inc, Gafsons Industries Limited and Go Logistics Incorporated.
The Chamber also has as its founders Royal Bank of Canada, Scotia Bank Guyana Inc, Sterling Products Limited, Gold Source Mines Incorporated, N&S Mattai and Company, Nalico/Nafico, NSBOmega Guyana Inc and Panthera Solutions Incorporated.
Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited, Guyana Goldfields Inc, Guysons Oil and Gas, High Commission of Canada to Guyana, International Development and Relief Foundation, JHI Associates Inc, are the remaining members.
Back in 2018, the American Chamber of Commerce was officially launched in Guyana at the Marriott Hotel, the event drawing a large section of the local Private Sector and representatives from the United States business community.
AmCham’s Board had included Zulfikar Ally of Queens Atlantic, Clairmont Cummings of Corum Group, Liz Wyatt of Sol Guyana, Dave Kissoon of London House Chambers, Justin Nedd of Guyana Telephone Telegraph (GTT), Rod Henson of ExxonMobil and Davie Sukdeo of Guyana Marriott.
George Kalantzakis of HESS Corporation, Rafael Nabi of Nabi Construction Inc, Saskia Wigingaarde of RED Entertainment, Yolander Persaud of Massy Group Guyana, Jorge Medina of MACORP, Richard Sammy of Republic Bank, Marisca Jordan of RAMPS Logistics, Andrew Mendonza of Baker Hughes and Fitzroy McLeod of NAMILCO.
Members of the Executive include Zulfikar Ally as Chairman, Clairmont Cummings as First Vice Chair, Justin Nedd as Second Vice Chair, Liz Wyatt as Third Vice Chair, Fitzroy McLeod as Treasurer, Devindra Kissoon as General Counsel, and Yolander Persaud as Company Secretary.
Since AmCham’s entrance to Guyana, it has met with the US diaspora and called on them to return to Guyana to invest and take up the opportunities currently available to develop the country. (G3)
