…as Warriors record most wins in CPL history
The Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) started the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with a dominant win against the Jamaica Kingsmen on Thursday last. That win was the 93rd victory for the Guyanese franchise in CPL history.
Current Captain Imran Tahir, since he took the reins, has led the Amazon Warriors to three finals and he has ensured success follows the Amazon Warriors.
The veteran said he is honoured to wear the captaincy armband.
“Look, it’s a responsibility I’ve been given, and I take that as an honour. If I come to play any game for Guyana, it’s the first and last game for me. I think there are many Guyanese players that want to be here. And if I’m representing everybody, then I need to take all the responsibility as a captain, as a bowler, and whatever I can benefit to the team,” Tahir said.

He also thanked his teammates for their contribution.
“But I also want to be thankful to my teammates. Their hard work and the way they prepare coming to this comp and in the previous comps. There is no fault in that. So, we’re really happy that we have a good start, but we have to make sure we carry on the same plan what we’ve been doing over the years, and hopefully, this year as well,” Tahir said.
The Amazon Warriors will play their second game of the season, against St Lucia Kings at Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on Wednesday, August 19. That fixture is set to bowl off at 19:00h local time.
