Chanderpaul’s unbeaten 176 helps West Demerara crush East Bank

Guyana Jaguars batsman Tagenarine Chanderpaul stroked a delightful 176 not out on day two which was significant factor in West Demerara crushing East Bank by an innings and 182 runs when the Guyana Cricket Board /Jaguars 3-Day tournament continued on Monday at Tuschen.
East Bank who made 171 all out in their first innings with all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford top-scoring with a 42-ball 67, were made to pay for their below-par total since the home side responded with 494-7 declared from 130 overs.
East Bank’s destruction came at the hands of National Youth spinner Richie Looknauth who took 5-46.
With the bat, Centuries from former West Indies Youth players, Chanderpaul and Tevin Imlach (103) and busy knocks by Romario Shephard (55 off 29 balls) and Akshaya Persaud (43 off 26 balls) got West Demerara to their mammoth total.
Ronaldo Ali-Mohammed (2-76),Totoran Bishun (2-79) and Darshan Persaud (2-101) were the main wicket takers.
With a daunting deficit of 323 runs, East Bank could only muster 149-9 in 40.2 overs. Captain Vishaul Singh stroked 36 but it was Ali-Mohammed’s aggressive knock of 49 from 35 balls which carried the late order assault.
The menacing pace of Shepherd accounted for 3-50 while Looknauth was again among the wickets with 3-32, taking his match haul to 8-78.
Round three will commence Friday and it will see East Bank taking on Essequibo at Everest, West Demerara challenging West Berbice at Tuschen, East Coast battling Georgetown at Lusignan and Lower Corentyne going up against Upper Corentyne at Albion.
